Dreamwidth usage poll - the funcrunch files

May. 12th, 2009 03:48 pm Dreamwidth usage poll

So I got an account on Dreamwidth mostly to reserve my name on there, but I haven't really used it at all yet. I have a permanent account on LJ, so I'm unlikely to buy a seed or even paid account on DW at this time. But since a number of my LJ friends are getting DW accounts too, and some are cross-posting and some aren't, I wondered if I should start cross-posting as well in case a mass migration is in the winds. Another benefit of DW is that I could grant access to friends-only posts to people with OpenID accounts; I know at least a couple of friends are reading my blog entries but don't have LJ accounts, and I'd like them to have access to friends-only posts as well. (Though ironically, they won't be able to vote in this poll, though are encouraged to leave comments...)

I've set up a thing there via LJ OpedID, and I've added a few folks to my "circle," but that's the extent of things thus far.

I have a Dreamwidth account and haven't decided entirely how I'm going to use it yet. I consider cross-posting, but I've also considered posting completely different material to my account here and there.

I have a permanent account on LJ and loathe the thought of totally stopping posting here. But if the company in Russia that now owns this site does more stuff I don't like, I'm gonna bail.

I think people post "tickybox" for people who are a bit OCD or simply love clicking on things because it's fun and addictive. Some people just are that way... I once came across a page on the internet (some random search) that was basically nothing but a page full of different size, label, and colour buttons. The buttons didn't do anything except click -- no post, no get, no submit. There was text over them saying, more or less, "enjoy clicking the buttons". So I think people just like it.

I have my dreamwidth set up to crosspost and I keep MEANING to crosspost, but I keep forgetting. I am so used to just posting here.

I think "tickybox" just means "other". I usually try to put some random thing instead of "tickybox" myself... like "buttered toast" or "rabid weasels".

I don't have one. The separate reading list/able to view list options might be one reason to consider moving, but so far it's not worth the effort.

I hope everyone doesn't leave LJ.

I answered "Other" to a few of these because I haven't quite figured out what I want to do with my Dreamwidth account. I probably will move over there for my primary journal usage, and crosspost, but it's a low priority and I haven't quite gotten around to it yet.

Differentiating between access and subscription is one of my favorite things about Dreamwidth. I use filters for that on LJ, but I find them less efficient than I'd like.

I made an account (same name as here) but don't plan to use it until such time as most of the people here migrate there and stop using their LJs.
