|Jul. 31st, 2012 01:37 pm July fitness wrap-up, and planning for August|
Continuing in my quest to get really fit this summer, I successfully completed another full month of aerobic, strength, and flexibility training. I didn't stick 100% to my July training plan, missing a couple of workouts, but did add running miles - nearly 116 total for the month - and two 5K races I wasn't planning to do. I wrote about the first race already, and will write up the second one once the official results are posted (the results for both me and boyziggy are currently missing, which is aggravating as this was his first-ever road race and I also set a personal record).1 note - Make notes
I had boyziggy take a reference photo of me today, though I don't look much different than in the photo I posted in last month's update. I did lose another pound (currently 120 lbs, body mass index 20.6) and another inch off my waist (currently 29 inches measured around the navel).
I don't look too happy, but we were both tired out after doing the President's Challenge Fitness Test this morning. The test measures aerobic fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility. We did the aerobic portion, a 1.5 mile run, at Kezar Stadium. I can't remember the last time I ran on a track; I find it terribly boring. I managed a speed of 9.5 min/mile which is really fast for me, and got me to the 70th percentile for my age according to the test results. I fared much worse in the other criteria (measured by half sit-ups, push-ups, and "sit-and reach"), particularly in flexibility. So it's clear where I need to focus my efforts next month.
Here's next month's plan, which is subject to change; I need to find more running routes for variety. I don't think I need to start increasing the distance of my long runs yet, as the half marathon I signed up for isn't till November.
