Dykes to Watch Out For - the funcrunch files

Nov. 6th, 2003 12:47 pm Dykes to Watch Out For

I'm thoroughly enjoying the latest Dykes to Watch Out For collection. For those who aren't familiar, this is a witty comic strip that is not at all strictly for or about dykes. My straight ex-husband loved this strip, and read each new collection cover to cover starting the moment we left the bookstore.

Last night I was happy to see that this collection includes one of my favorite strips, which happens to feature male characters. I love it primarily because it's hilarious, but also because it addresses a pet peeve of mine, which is using the term "gay" as a synonym for, as the strip puts it, "lame and stupid".

Carbon-based?

Which collection have you got?

Or did I just miss that strip -- I thought I read it cover-to-cover.

P.S.: How do you feel about the term "ghey" -- which, apparently, is
also in use? It's apparently engineered to sound just like "gay", but
not be the same word. I don't much like it.

It's Dykes and Sundry Other Carbon-Based Life Forms to Watch Out For. I'm only halfway through, but so far it seems I've already read all of the strips at the PlanetOut web site.

Never heard of it. I don't think I much like it either. Most of the time I've seen "gay" used in the pejorative sense has been during online gaming, which has a large quantity of teens and immature people.
