New Year's Eve, New Year's Day

Last night I invited obadiah to a party at my friend Oli's, which I have attended every New Years Eve for many years now (save 1999, when I was on-call for Y2K issues). We had a good time. I can be a wallflower at parties sometimes, but I managed to have some good conversation last night. I had a great talk with this one guy about Nick Drake (see my previous LJ entry) and similar music. I wish I'd gotten his contact info but his girlfriend was looming and I wasn't sure if she'd be cool with that. With another guy I discussed religion for awhile, as I overheard a comment he made that some Buddhist sects say it's OK to kill people because they reincarnate within 90 days. Being nominally Buddhist myself, I couldn't let that one slide without asking for further clarification... And zyxwvut (fetching in his kilt) and Beth (fetching in whatever she wears to parties) were there as always, and I even got to spend more time talking with the host than usual.

boyziggy had to work last night, but he was only about two miles away and had the Mime Troupe van, so he picked me up around 3 a.m. We drove to the Troupe laden with sound equipment from the event, with another truck following. When we got there, the gate was padlocked and none of the keys from the office opened it. Ziggy had to unscrew the lock from the gate with his pocket tool in the pouring rain. Then we hauled all of the equipment in, Ziggy left a nasty note, and we headed out to try to flag down a cab. We didn't get home till after 4:30 a.m.

I have so many things I want to change about myself this year. But whenever I've committed specific goals and plans to writing, to LJ or privately, I haven't kept them. So I'm not going to make out a list of resolutions here or anywhere else. The only thing I'll say is that my primary goal in 2004 is to be more productive. I believe 2003 was my least productive year ever, both at work and in my personal life. I'm not sure how I'm going to change, but change I must. We're none of us getting any younger.
