Weighty matters II

I mentioned about a month ago that I needed to do something about my weight. I think I finally have the motivation to make good on that statement. I've been feeling really, really old lately, much older than my 33 1/2 years and assorted gray hairs justify. I figure that all the fat and sugar cruising through my bloodstream couldn't be helping me feel any younger, or less depressed.

I'm trying once again to go on Dr. Joel Fuhrman's "Eat to Live" program. I didn't last too long on it before, but I really am convinced that it is the best plan for me at this stage. I was able to lose weight before on a less restrictive regime, but that's because I was running regularly, and I'm not ready to commit to that level of exercise again yet. Also, I had a lot less to lose before.

So I'm basically supposed to be eating unlimited vegetables (especially green leafy ones), fruits, and beans, and not much else. This weekend I survived going to Ren Faire with obadiah and boyziggy and to purchasemonkey's birthday party without cheating, so I'm off to a good start. I just have to do better shopping and planning to make sure I have enough healthy food at work and in the house at all times.

My goal is to lose about 40 pounds, which if I lose 2 pounds a week, I should be able to accomplish by my next birthday. This should be doable if I start exercising moderately again and stick to the diet pretty strictly. Even losing a pound a week means eliminating 500 calories a day, though, so I won't torture myself if I can't accomplish my goal that quickly. I just want to feel good about myself again.
