running 2009

Today's run

Did the usual Embarcadero run today, but used the Android to measure it. The belt clip held out fine. I was shocked when I finished to find that I had run 5.37 miles in 57:44, for a pace of 10:46 min/mile. I sure didn't feel like I was going that fast, but then this is the first time I've really measured this course with a finer degree of accuracy. You can see all the weaving and wobbles on my course map, which no doubt contributed to the distance being longer than the five miles I'd measured on Google Maps previously. I think a sub-11 minute pace is unlikely for my current level of fitness, but I'll still pat myself on the pack for doing the workout.

I have just enough time to work up to race distance before the half marathon on July 26. I'll run 10 miles this Sunday and then add two miles every other week, running half that distance on the alternate weeks as per the Jeff Galloway training method. Barring illness or injury, that will put me at 14 miles three weeks before race day, at which point I'll taper off. It's been a long time since I've run more than ten miles, but I'm confident I can do it...
