Brief election thoughts - the funcrunch files

Nov. 4th, 2008 10:16 pm Brief election thoughts

Happy election night everyone. Even though Obama was not my candidate (I voted for McKinney of the Green Party), I'm proud that our country has managed to elect a black president. More specifically, a mixed-race person like myself. We still have a long way to go to eliminate racial prejudice, but overcoming this hurdle is of huge significance.

I'm not going to be celebrating much however until I see which way Proposition 8 goes. Right now it's winning, which distresses me greatly.

See, that's the thing....

If Obama had lost to McKinney, I would have been just as pleased based on McKinney's ethics. That simple. At least you didn't vote McCain.....

I'm so proud that Obama was elected, as well.

But, 8. Please, please no on 8.

Hey, I'm delighted to see our country elect a mixed-race person. I see this as proof most of America has moved beyond overt racism. What a great day!

Although Prop-8 looks like it is winning (53% yes with 33% of precincts reporting in), I noticed that most of the underreported counties are the more liberal ones. As the more liberal counties call in their election results, I think the margin will decrease. I just hope it decreases enough for that damned thing to fail.
