While struggling up Hyde Street hill this morning I thought to myself, "Why the hell am I doing this again?" I came up with another good reason: for my heart. There's no warranty on this pump, this really important muscle, and I need to challenge it if I want it to provide me with several more decades of trouble-free service. Make notes
So I did my run to Aquatic Park, glad that I didn't wear a jacket even though the temperature was in the mid-50s, as the sun came out nice and strong. Workers were jackhammering out the stadium seating; I saw a sign saying the reconstruction period started in October and will last 12-18 months, but I didn't slow down enough to see what the end result will be.
Got back to the cable car turnaround in 28 minutes, for a 14 min/mile pace. Would have liked it to be faster since I didn't hit any red lights this time, but that downhill stretch is really tough for me to do quickly. Walked home, picking up speed after I crested the steep hill at Lombard. After a short rest I did my stretches and crunches. My lower back has been bothering me a little, so I'll have to take care to do these correctly. Of course, slouching at my desk playing Nethack for hours yesterday didn't help any in that regard. :-P
