Now, these steps are not tall, but they are not even either. There is a flight on either side of the block and they are of various sizes and have cracks, etc. Halfway up one side someone had written "Fuck Stairs" in pink chalk; I could sympathize. The reward for making it to the top is a nice view of the Bay Bridge, but I was too busy huffing and puffing to enjoy it.
Around the third time down I realized: My knee isn't hurting! w00t! But I had my eyes glued to the steps, afraid of falling. This workout should help me build up confidence for going downhill over uneven surfaces, I hope.
After the sixth time up my breathing was labored, my heart was racing, and I was sweating profusely. It was time to stop. I forgot to stop the stopwatch until about a block from the stairs going home, but I think the workout took about 20 minutes. I'll try to add another flight each week.
Scale read 135 1/2 pounds this morning. If I can keep from snacking on fattening foods at the party I'm going to tonight, I'll have met my interim goal of 135 by Feb 1. My final goal of 125 pounds is well within sight.
