Quick administrative note - the funcrunch files

Apr. 5th, 2010 10:36 am Quick administrative note

I haven't been blogging on LJ much anymore because I'm using Facebook a lot more for quick updates. I pretty much only come to LJ when I have the desire to write something long-form, or when I want to friends-lock an entry.

I do have a permanent LJ account though, so I'm certainly not giving it up completely. I just haven't been using it for either writing or reading all that much lately.

It is also possible now to make individual Facebook status updates visible only to a selected group or custom-defined-on-the-spot subset of your friends list. I tried it, and it seemed to work. Now, if I only *trusted* Facebook not to screw it up--which I don't.

Yeah I know, but too much effort - I have over 400 FB friends from elementary school classmates through former employers etc. and don't want to try to figure out who gets to hear what. :-)

Yeah, I have even more FB friends (currently 554). I tried to define a friends group for postings of the same level of personal content I'd use for Facebook, but was defeated by the utterly abysmal user interface (scrolling through the entire list in a tiny window that you can't enlarge). I gave up. If you *do* manage to define a group that encapsulates some community in that way, it's actually pretty easy after that (until you want to change the list, which sends you back to UI hell).

Yup! The 8-12 year old set definitely does not get to hear the same stuff that in-scene adults do! ;-)

Nods, I have been taking on that style as well - quick stuff to FB, filtered and longer stuff here.
