boyziggy visited a chiropractor yesterday afternoon, and said that he was feeling much better afterwards. But he was still in so much pain that he couldn't lie in the same position for more than a few minutes. The chiropractor said that he had to relax his muscles to stop pinching on the nerve. (He also took X-rays to confirm that it was not a slipped or herniated disk.) I finally got Ziggy to relax by telling him to breathe deeply, focusing on the breath, in and out. I remembered this from the meditation instructions in my various Buddhist books, read but rarely practiced. Ziggy was then able to get a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep, not much but he sorely needed it. Last night he could only sleep by hanging halfway off the bed with his knee on a pillow on the floor, and still for only a couple of hours at a time.Make notes
I'm still holed up in the bedroom watching Law and Order reruns (rest in peace, Jerry Orbach) while trying to get over my cold. I need to stay strong for Ziggy. It's very hard knowing how to deal with this because he has always been the one to take care of me. I also feel bad that we're going to miss my friend Casey's wedding tomorrow, and I'm not even sure he knows this (I sent e-mail and left a message on his answering machine but he hasn't responded). We extended our vacation two days just to go to the wedding, after all.
At least we are in a comfortable warm home surrounded by family. They have been so helpful and have really done a lot more for Ziggy than I could do myself, especially now that I have this cold.
When we get over this we're both going to take up yoga, for real this time. And regular meditation and breathing exercises won't hurt either.
