Google weirdness

Someone on Yahoo Answers was asking questions about how many web pages and sites there are in the U.S. and the world. Of course these are unanswerable, but I remember when Google first started hiding its advertised number of pages that someone figured out how to get it to display the number. I tried various wildcard symbols without luck, so then tried several common words like "and", "of" etc. For "to" I got a whopping 19.9 billion pages. But that sounded fishy so I searched again and got "only" 8.5 billion. Tried several more "to" searches and it kept alternating back and forth between those two results. Weird.
